Dental Phobia and Anxiety

... and breathe

If  the very thought of visiting  the dentist for a check up causes you to feel uncomfortable and worried, I can  help. Maybe you have an unpleasant memory of going to the dentist as a child, maybe you have had a recent bad experience or maybe you are not sure why going to the dentist upsets you. Together we can explore what is keeping your dental anxiety going and with a tailor made CBT plan work  towards you overcoming these obstacles.

Dental anxiety can hold you back from getting essential treatment done, leaving you susceptible to pain and infection.  It can affect your ability to eat well, speak clearly  and can erode your self-esteem if you are unhappy with how your teeth look. Untreated dental problems can impact work, relationships and confidence when socialising. If any of this resonates it is time to get in touch.

I am able to  provide a space to breathe  and process your anxiety away from a clinical dental environment. Through using CBT techniques and strategies you can decrease your anxiety levels  and learn to cope better with dental visits and procedures.

Dental Professionals

You are enough

I am committed to providing a service aimed at maintaining the mental well-being of dentists and dental care professionals. It is well documented that the demands of the job can leave dentists prone to stress, burnout, imposter syndrome, anxiety and even a sense of despair. It can be a very lonely place and difficult to admit that you are struggling or to know where to turn. With my unique experience of working as a dentist and true understanding of the nature of the job I am in an excellent position to provide counselling and CBT for all members of the dental team. As with all my clients non-judgement, confidentiality and discretion are of utmost importance.

Chronic illness

You are heard

I am experienced in providing CBT to people who are living with chronic illness. Using CBT I can help you come to terms with your diagnosis  and how it is affecting your mental wellbeing.  Managing a chronic illness  often involves battling fatigue, pain and coping with disability. You may experience a sense of grief for your old self and uncertainty about the future. These are all factors which may be impacting  your peace of mind and day-to-day contentment. It can sometimes be difficult to share worries with family members and friends so our counselling sessions are where you can speak openly and process the emotions you are experiencing in a neutral place. CBT is useful for re-instilling hope and helping you to live a fulfilling life.
